Gwithian Beach is situated near Godrevy and is a fantastic place to go for a walk. I went there on a very windy and blustery Christmas Day.

There are plenty of sand dunes behind the beach. And plenty of rocks, in places, on the beach. The north coast is favoured more by the surfers and you can see why as the dramatic waves crash in. There are local surfing schools for those who want to learn how to pick up a surfing board and ride the waves. Something I would like to do one day… when I am fitter!

You can see the Godrevy lighthouse from the beach.  And there is a beautiful walk along the coastline around Godrevy.

Perranporth Beach is situated on the north coast. And is an extremely long beach. Something I know from doing a beach tidy there once. We had to get a jeep to give us a lift to and from the northern most point.

I’ve only been on relatively calm days, so have not experienced it when it is stormy. But just looking at the sheer size of the beach, I can imagine it would be pretty spectacular.

As you walk on to the beach you notice a very large rock on the left hand side. And as you turn round, a very large drinking establishment on the right hand side! This is the well known Watering Hole, which is situated on the sand. It’s beautiful to sit outside on the benches on a summer’s day. I’ve yet to go there in the evening but it is on my list. It has a great reputation, so I will be going sometime.

The festival Tunes In The Dunes is held on Perranporth in June each year, with a decent sized stage on the beach. I can imagine on a hot summers day, it must be a great event to go to.
