I absolutely love visiting stone circles in Cornwall. I find them fascinating. It’s hard to describe how engrossing I find it to go for a country walk and then come across a field with a circle of stones laid down inside it.
The stones weigh an absolute tonne. So plenty of effort would have been made to put there. But why there? Why supposedly in the middle of nowhere? Some people suggest the circles are at places where there is high energy from where the earth’s leylines meet. Others say the circles were some sort of punishment for people not observing the Sabbath. Or they were places where rituals and ceremonies were carried out.
I find the atmosphere in the circles intriguing. They can be extremely peaceful and feel almost spiritual. You can feel like you are picking up a certain energy from them. And they can be in a variety of locations; on an exposed moor, in an enclosed field, in an open field or near a pathway.
This is one of the things about Cornwall that I truly love and feel privileged to be able to have so close to me.
I have now joined a group called Stone Club and look forward to meeting up with them. And other fellow stone circle enthusiasts.
