Gyllyngvase Beach, or Gylly Beach it is more commonly known, is the main beach in Falmouth and my local one. It is particularly beautiful on a sunny day, but also a peaceful place even when the weather isn’t so kind. It can still look beautiful on a stormy day, with the waves crashing in.

There can be plenty of sunbathers but the beach never feels too crowded. I love to sit on the benches next to the beach and watch the world go by. Near the path you can find groups of people enjoying their time by playing volleyball. I always feel so grateful that this is on my doorstep.

On the beach is the awesome Gylly Beach Cafe.  There is the takeaway bit with a hatch where you can buy food and drink to take onto the beach.  Opposite is the main cafe where you can sit down and enjoy a varied menu of excellent food and drink. And take in the views. You can sit indoors or in the newly built outside area. Both are lovely and well worth a visit.

Castle Beach is strangely enough situated near a castle. Unlike the sandy Gylly Beach, this is a mainly rocky one, with less sand. It is located further along the same stretch of coastline as Gylly Beach, closer to Pendennis Castle on the Pendennis peninsula. Like Gylly Beach, it has beautiful views. It can range from feeling really peaceful and somewhere to relax and collect your thoughts; to somewhere where it is incredibly dramatic when the waves are hitting the shore with some force during a storm.

Along the shore you can see some colourful beach huts.  And the excellent Castle Beach Cafe should you want something to eat.  Again, well worth a visit.
