I’m a big fan of the Princess Pavilions and am lucky to have it just around the corner from me in Falmouth. The venue itself is lovely, with a nice courtyard with garden in the middle of it. It is worth a visit even without anything being held there. It hosts a variety of different events and meet up groups during the year.
You can get some big names appearing down there. I’ve seen Tangerine Dream, The Orb, DJ Yoda and Confidence Man perform here. They have also had The Libertines come down to play. Plus it also hosts Duchy Opera whom I have seen a couple of times and would recommend.
DJ Yoda was incredible to watch. A consumate performer. I’d never been to a proper gig with a DJ mixing the way he was.
Confidence Man were excellent. They had a lot of energy and some great tunes. They obviously love to put on a show and the audience loved it.
The Orb were brilliant to watch live… except I was sat right at the back because I was on crutches at the time. I’ve listened to them since the early 90’s and a fair number of the crowd were from my generation, reliving their youth. I want to see them again, when I can stand up properly!
Tangerine Dream were super cool. They had melodic dance tracks that had loads of atmosphere. They have been around for years and it showed as they were consummate performers.
The venue is a decent size. Big enough for a good crowd but not so big that you feel a million miles away from the stage. This is one of my favourite places to go watch music at.
Verdant Taproom is not found in Falmouth. Nor is it on a main high street in Penryn. Instead it is on an industrial estate on the outskirts of Penryn. They have built a brewery here so have enough room for the club. You can see the brewery vats in the room next door where they brew the beer.
I went to a techno evening with several DJ’s, including the well known Jon Hopkins. It was a brilliant evening. The venue felt intimate but there was enough room to have a good dance. I will be writing a blog post about that evening as it was spectacular and reminded me just how much I used to love clubbing and how much I love dance music.
I will definitely be going back for other clubbing nights there. It was a nice mixture of age ranges, so I felt comfortable being there as an older person. They have some decent acts booked there. The legendary Jungle Brothers performed to a sold out crowd.
