Starting A New Life In Kernow

Why bother setting up a website called The Bearded Miller Of Kernow?

Well, six years ago I moved 300 miles away from everyone I knew to relocate to Cornwall. Falmouth to be exact. And if there’s one way you want to find out who you really are, then making a move like that on your own is one way to do it.

I’m a born and bred Londoner.  South London to be precise.  But there had always been a part of me that wanted to move somewhere else and experience something different.  So finally, at the age of 49, I decided to throw caution to the wind and move down on my own to Falmouth.

I wanted to set up this website and start this blog to document my experiences.  Not just listing things I’ve done, or places I’ve visited, but to write about how it has felt to move down here.  Cornwall is very different to South London!

There is a real beauty to Cornwall.  And a natural friendliness to the people.  I love saying “hello” to passers by!  But then with any move like this, there can be periods of isolation and doubt.

I will be adding more to the website, talking about the spirituality and stillness I find in Cornwall. I will be having a section on my favourite trail walks/runs in Cornwall, which I prefer in autumn when the light is softer and the days are cooler.

I will be walking sections of the South West Coastal Path and will look to document this.  Some of the coastline in Cornwall is stunning.

Mental Health will be covered in a variety of topics – isolation, connection, finding your tribe and drinking.

So I hope you find this interesting and enjoy my updates about my experiences in Cornwall so far and the experiences to come.
